The Internship

Before you read this I want you to know that this was not a job internship. It’s a lot more serious than that.

So Saturday we played Elder in lacrosse. I’ve been an offensive middie ever since I started playing lacrosse.

This Saturday I got moved to D-mid which is a middie that comes on when we go onto defense. The other two D-mids on our team are Seniors Charlie Zack and Andrew Sizer.

Since this was my first time playing this position Zack and Sizer revered to me as “the intern” and by the end of the game I would be told how I did and if I “got the job.”

So I played the whole game as a defensive middie and did pretty well. Our defense only let in four goals, allowing us to come out on top with a 12-4 victory.

At the end of the game the coaches said they think they found a new position for me, implying that I “got the job.” So I guess I will be playing d-mid for the rest of the year, unless I get demoted or fired.

Our next game is this Saturday against the Wyoming Cowboys and I guess I’m expecting to be playing d-mid, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Where has the time gone

So this week I decided I’d write about how I am about 5 months away from being a senior and what it feels like, what my thoughts are, and my words of advice.

When I was a freshman I remember listening to seniors speeches at sports events and about almost all of them said enjoy this time because it flies bye and before you know it you’ll be graduating. I am not quiet there yet but I’m a few steps away.

It’s weird thinking that I am going to be a senior next year and many of my friends think so too. It feels like just yesterday we were freshman walking through the hallways scared to even look at the seniors and in 5 months we’re going to be those “scary” seniors the freshman will be nervous to even look at. Back to the time flying bye part… it might sound cheesy but it’s true.

It’s almost the 4th quarter in my junior year and I’m currently reminiscing upon freshman memories and thoughts about how cool it is going to be to be a senior and now, although I’m excited to be a senior, I think I would do anything to be able to start over, do things different, and experience things just one more time.

I remember being a freshman and looking at the seniors as if they were like gods. They were big, scary, cool and fun. I looked at them as if they were super old and manly and now I am thinking about being a senior next year and wondering if the incoming freshman will feel the same way about us as seniors.

Although I have been reminiscing upon the past 3 years of high school, I’m looking forward and dreading my last.

I’m looking forward to all the experiences and rewards that come with being a senior. I look forward to the chance of being a captain, being the”top dog” of the high school, and graduation of course. Yet, at the same time I am dreading sports and graduation. Next year could possibly be my last year playing football and lacrosse and I have been playing football since I was 4 years old and I only have 10 games left in my high school career and it is very sad thinking about it. I’m also dreading graduating because I am going to be leaving my friends that I have known since Kindergarten and although I’m sure we’ll see each other often, it is weird and sad thinking that we are all going to be going to different schools where we don’t see each other every day.

So to everyone out there reading this, enjoy the time you have because school flies bye, don’t stress too much and have fun.

Apple Music vs Spotify

I would like to start off by saying I listen to both Apple Music and Spotify so I am not really biased one way or another.

So lets start off with Apple Music. Apple Music costs $9.99 a month for one person, if you want a family plan (up to 6 members) it costs $15 a month. I think this is a great deal. By buying the family package you save up to $45 a month which is crazy.

They also have a very wide selection of music, music videos, tv shows, movies, etc. This is nice because you don’t have to buy all these things extra. You get as many songs and movies you want and its all only $9.99 a month which is less than what most movies cost. I am not exactly sure how they make money off of this but I guess it is working some how or else they would’ve gotten rid of Apple Music and just gone back to iTunes and buying each song separately for 99 cents.

With Apple Music you get to make as many playlists as you want, title them whatever you want and create an image for each playlist which I find very neat.

When I am listening to music in my car I usually use Apple Music and you get to learn why later!

So now lets talk about Spotify…

I just got Spotify about 3 years ago. With Spotify you can buy premium which costs $9.99 a month with no family plans or anything. Buying the premium membership allows you to choose what songs you listen to, disables ads, and makes the quality of the music better. If you decide not to purchase premium you can use the free version which lets you make playlists with songs but you can only shuffle them. You can;t choose what song you want to play and there are ads every like 6 songs or so.

6 months ago I decided to go ahead and pay for an Apple Music membership and use the free version of Spotify. I am not sure if that was the best decision I have ever made because I am starting to become more of a fan of Spotify.

So what I am thinkin’ is that i cancel my apple membership and switch over to Spotify premium and see how I like it. I’m not 100% sure yet because it is quite the ballsy move I think.

If Apple doesn’t come out with another update or something to better their Music I will most likely switch over to Spotify Premium.

So overall, although I am currently a member of Apple Music, I am more of a Spotify type of guy and think Spotify is a better music app and is a lot more popular amongst teens.

So I’m a junior this year and that means prom…

I don’t really know what to expect, I don’t know if it’s gonna be a bunch of slow dances or if it is just like homecoming and snowball just nicer and bigger of a deal.

I’ve had a few friends that have gone and they said the dance is a lot of fun and so is the after party and staying out all night with your friends and date.

I went to prom pics last year to see everyone and everyone was in long dresses and nice tuxes. People had limos and party buses and it just looked like everyone was very excited and eager for the night.

I don’t really know who I’m gonna ask yet, I haven’t put much thought into it but I guess we will see come March/ April. Sadly, all the girls in my grade will go with senior guys… thus leaving the underclassmen, which I am friends with, so I’ll probably ask one of them.

I like dressing up for homecoming and snowball and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous but really excited for dressing nice for prom. I like wearing the button down, nice pants, tie and blazer. I’m all about it.

I have also heard that everyone goes to the after party the school kind of puts together then goes out to eat and doesn’t get home till really late, which I think will be fun, but tiring.

Overall, I’m a little nervous because I don’t really know what to expect but I’m excited and anxious for April to come.

Things that annoy me

So I wasn’t too sure on what I was gonna write about this week, once again. While I was sitting in study hall today Mrs. Stinett said, “whoever is signing out and going to the study space you have to stop because I am not allowing you to go up there.” This really kinda pissed me off, like what is the point of having a study space if students can’t even go there to study and work on things quietly. I personally think it is crap. I don’t know why, but I got super heated about this and I am going to talk to Dr. Renner about it. If we can’t use it then there is no point in it even being there, it’s a waste of space and money as of now.

Another thing that really pisses me off is when people lie about stupid stuff. I understand why people lie about some things… everybody does, but when it’s over something stupid then that really grinds my gears. Like if someone asks you to hangout and you don’t want to, just say you don’t want to, I think people would rather hear that then hear you lie straight to them and then have them see you later that night with people. It just creates unneeded and unwanted drama and there’s no point of it.

Last thing I’ll say. If you talk with food in your mouth or chew with your mouth open, you are one of these annoying people I’m about to talk about. Everyday at lunch I see and hear people talking with their mouths full of food, or open while eating and I see food fly out of their mouths and it is the mos disgusting, annoying thing on my list. It literally takes five freaking seconds to chew your food and swallow it and it isn’t hard to chew with your mouth closed… at all, its seriously the easiest freaking thing ever. To everyone out there that does this, stop. Please.

A few days ago my phone received a message from a group chat and I looked at it and it said “hey guys.” So I opened my phone and it was a group chat from eighth grade. We all talked and sent pics in it for a while and it got kind of annoying and then someone asked if we wanted to go to breakfast Friday morning.

So this morning me and a few people in my grade went to breakfast at the National Exemplar in Mariemont Square.

I woke up at 6:20 and I usually wake up around 6:40-6:50, so I’m a little tired today. I was up till 1 working on homework and right now, being in study hall, it is a struggle for me to write this blog, let alone keep my eyes open.

So we all went to the Exemplar at around 7:00 and it took them like ten minutes to set-up our table and by the time we sat down it was about 7:15. We were planning on being a little late to school.

The food was delicious and the service was pretty decent. It was fun going to breakfast before school… a little hard to wake up earlier, but definitely worth it.

Turns out we were like 20 minutes late to school and all got tardies and one of us got a Friday school… in my opinion, in was most definitely worth it.

Study Hall?

Ive been in study hall for three years now, ever since my freshman year. It is supposed to be a bell where everybody works on their homework, studies, goes and sees teachers, etc. but it seems to me about on 60% of students actually do this. The other 40% use it as a “free bell” meaning they play games, mess around, sleep and do all sorts of other things.

I’m not gonna lie, I am sometimes apart of that 40% of students because when you have no work it’s easy to get distracted and just pull out your phone and play games, text or snapchat.

Even when you don’t have homework to do there is always something you can be doing like studying or seeing your teachers and students don’t take advantage of this opportunity.

I’ve been in study hall today for 23 minutes and I’ve been observing people and I see a few working, a few sleeping, one student talking to a teacher and all the others talking and playing games. It is just crazy how we have the opportunity to get our work done and we take advantage of it and don’t use it wisely.

I wrote this because I was just thinking about how blessed and lucky WE are to live in such a great community with such a great school and how WE have many opportunities that WE take for granted.

in the blink of an eye

I was gonna write about Kodak Black but I changed my mind last minute. I think I’m gonna take a break from writing about music and write about what’s going on right now in my life.

So I’m on the football team and we are 6-2 as of now and we have two games left, Finneytown which is practically a win and Madeira. If we win those two games we will be 8-2 which would be the first time that’s happened at Mariemont in 20 years. The sad thing about it is that even if we still win these next two games we could still not make the playoffs which seems crazy to me.

My teammates and I have worked our butts off all summer, conditioning, practicing, and playing our hearts out and I’m very anxious to see if were gonna make the playoffs. Our seniors have a minimum of two games left in their football careers. When the final buzzer of our final game rings and the seniors break down in tears it is the saddest sight. Everyone cries and hugs each other and it’s just super sad.

I have 12 more guaranteed high school football games, and whenever I think about it, it makes me think about how much I’m going to miss it and how much I’m going to miss the people I’ve been playing with since I was 5 years old.

Football is unlike any other sport. It creates a brotherhood like no other sport does. Everyone on the football team is family, we are all so close and you can’t find that on the lacrosse, tennis, or baseball team, I can assure you that. Nobody understands the bond you make with people by playing football and nobody understand how painstaking and physical the sport really is.

We have practice 4-5 times a week, 2-3 hours a day and games on Fridays. We are always with each other and the environment that the seniors have created for everyone is great. I don’t think anybody is afraid to talk to anyone on the team. It really is the best sport out there.

Football has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old and I am now 16. I have one more year left of football and I know everyone always says this and it’s cheesy but time really does fly. I feel like yesterday I was just standing outside my house getting pictures for my first day of high school, and now I’m done with the first quarter of my junior year. It’s just unbelievable how quick everything has gone bye. To everyone out there reading this, enjoy the time you have now and don’t stress about the future, enjoy every moment because before you know it you’ll be graduating.

50% Frank, 50% Ocean

The album Blonde by Frank Ocean was released on August 20, 2016.

When I first heard this album I was in Josh McClorey’s Volks Wagon, driving through Terrace Park.

The first time I only listened to about 4 of his songs and I wasn’t too impressed. I thought they were all too slow and they weren’t very interesting. From that point forward I was not impressed with this album that was said to be “all that”… until I gave it another shot.

One night while doing my homework. It was a dark, stormy night and I was working on my physics homework. Being the slacker that I am, I went on my phone and looked at snapchat and saw Marin Valentines story that was a picture of Blonde on Spotify and it said “albums finally on Spotify.” So I went on Spotify and searched “Blonde by Frank Ocean.” The album popped up and I clicked on it and listened to every song on the album.

After listening to an hour of this album I realized that it really isn’t bad at all. It is a little slow, but if you really listen to what he is saying in the songs it makes it even better.

Overall, Frank Ocean’s new album Blonde, is a great, slow, meaningful album.

Chance the Rapper: Rising Star

Chancelor Bennett, known worldwide as Chance the Rapper, was born in West Chatham Chicago, Illinois. He grew up with one brother (Taylor Bennett) and two parents ( Lisa and Ken Bennett).

The first album that Chance dropped was called 10 day. He dropped it on April 3, 2013 and was available for online download. This album, being his first album ever, was not downloaded by many people. However, this didn’t stop him from chasing his dream as he continued to make music.

One year later the album Acid Rap was dropped. This is considered one of his most famous albums. This album included many great songs but the ones that received the most downloads were Cocoa Butter Kisses, Favorite Song, Smoke Again, Chain Smoker and Everybody’s Something.

The last album that he dropped, Coloring Book, made him more popular than he ever dreamed of being, selling 21,000 copies.

He was recently featured in Kanye West’s new album, The Life of Pablo. He was in the opening song, Ultralight Beam. For those of you that don’t know Kanye West, he is a very well known rapper. He sold 90,000 copies of The Life of Pablo within the first week it came out. This meant that Chance was becoming more popular by the day.

Chance being in this album gave him a huge shot of fame. He gained many fans from his last album, Coloring Book, but being in Kanye’s album made him even more popular than ever imagined.

This helped Chance because not only could he make albums now, he could make albums with featured artists that are well known around the world which would increase not only sales but his popularity as well.

Chance the Rapper is a perfect example of someone who wasn’t very fortunate as a kid. He grew up inĀ West Chatham Chicago, Illinois, a place of poverty. He wasn’t very privileged but through hard work and dedication, he became the pop star he dreamed of one day being.
